The 2022 Christian Moreau, Chablis, Burgundy was a Merchant's Pick
The Finest Chablis!
March 03, 2024
After 20 years of enjoyment, Moreau Chablis has yet to be replaced as my go-to white. That's why I always have a few bottles chilled in my refrigerator, regardless of the season.
Over the years, a few producers have come close, but we have yet to find a finer village Chablis that surpasses Moreau's quality.
2022 is another compelling Moreau vintage. As tight Burgundy markets continue to price creep, Moreau's relatively steady price makes it such a compelling white Burgundy.
"The Moreau family makes excellent Chablis villages." J. Gillman
A lovely nose of green apple, lime, chalky soil tones, white flowers and a top note of citrus peel. On the palate, the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and shows off lovely depth in the mid-palate, with impressive balance and grip, bright acids and a long, classy finish.
We love this Chablis' distinct crushed-stone and chalky finish. Though the wine sees no oak, it has a layer of creamy texture that leaves you begging for a second glass.
Why is Moreau's Chablis so sought after?
Christian Moreau is the largest holder of Grand Cru property in Chablis. The soil is rich in clay and fossilized shells. The wine is a chameleon. You can dress it up with a rich piece of fish, like grilled salmon, or dress it down with a crisp salad.
No wonder Wine Spectator has singled out Domaine Christian Moreau as "one of the best sources of Chablis in the region."
Don't be afraid to enjoy these wines on the warmer side of cold as great whites showcase well when served slightly warmer.
Enjoy!
