The 2019 Paolo Scavino, Barolo "Ravera" Piedmont was a Merchant's Pick
Snowstorm Special • Big-time Barolo!
February 13, 2024
Paulo Scavino has a treasure in the high-altitude village of Ravera.
Ravera is a picturesque village in the hills of the Langhe, Piedmont. This mountainous area is known for its food and wine.
The altitude and cool mountain climate allow for longer fruit hang time and deeper nuance.
With only a few vintages released to date, Ravera is gaining a lot of attention for its dark, sultry fruit of plum, blackberry, tilled earth, and truffle.
Ravera is an appetite-inducing Barolo that begs to be married with food.
Leather, vanilla and spice aromas are room filling and expressive, yet there are also subtle notes of rose, strawberry, cherry and iron underneath. As this red evolves on the palate, it firms up, remaining harmonious and resonant through the lingering finish. Eucalyptus and wild herb elements emerge after a few swirls in the glass.
Scavino's 2019 Ravera Barolo can be summed up in one word that depicts its terroir - Magical!
Pour a glass throughout the winter and let this Nebbiolo do what it does best: hit you with power and grace, a combination that will warm you from head to toe from the first sip.
Paolo Scavino is on the shortlist of Barolo producers to own.
With only 500 cases produced, there is never enough Ravera to satisfy the world market.
Enjoy!
