The 2020 Hubert Bouzereau-Gruere, 1er Cru "Les Cortons" Saint-Aubin was a Merchant's Pick
White Burgundy Alert • Rare Premier Cru!
October 28, 2022
Why is the village of Saint-Aubin regarded as one of the best Chardonnay-producing values in Burgundy?
Location!
Saint-Aubin 1er Cru vineyards straddle both Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, sharing much of the same limestone soil.
Today's little beauty is situated near the Grand Cru hill of Montrachet.
If you are not in the mood to spend $900+ on a Montrachet, here is an amazing alternative!
Our First Impression
Bouzereau's 1er Cru "Les Cortons" offers the finesse of a Montrachet and the weight of a Meursault.
Intoxicating notes of white flowers, honeysuckle, and chamomile. The lush palate is full of white peach, lemon zest, apple, and citrus. Mouthwatering acidity and a flinty, mineral-driven edge give the wine its balance and elegance.
No wonder sommeliers around the world seek out these 1er Cru darlings for their wine lists. So should you; this wine is a tremendous value!
And a little reminder - the next Burgundy release, 2021, suffered severe frost across the region limiting production and spiking prices. Chardonnay suffered more than Pinot Noir from its tendency to bud earlier than Pinot.
There isn't much. Be sure to secure your 2020 while it is around!
