I vividly remember enjoying the 2001 Altamura Cabernet Sauvignon.  It was fifteen years ago, and it was world-class.  

Terroir-driven, the fruit was center-stage; it was well-defined and integrated with dusty sweet tannins, a hint of oak (nothing that would influence the overall profile), earthy notes, and lasting acidity that anchored all the moving parts.

It was beautiful.

Today's feature, the 2019 Altamura, is strikingly similar to that stunning wine!

"Opens with earthy/savory notions of tree bark, black truffle, dried herbs, and Indian spices leading to a core of stewed plums, redcurrant jelly, and boysenberries plus nuances of tobacco leaf, dried mint, and fallen leaves. The medium to full-bodied palate is fantastically elegant and refined, with red berry sparks lifting the dense black fruits supported by plush tannins and bags of freshness, finishing long and minerally. Today's 2019 Altamura is impressive. 

The hillside vineyards of Altamura are similar to those in Howell Mountain and Mount Veeder, where the cool days force the grapes to struggle.  That means more texture and structure and less over-the-top fruit.

A gorgeous 2019 Napa vintage will allow you to enjoy this stunning Cabernet now and over the next two decades.  

However, give this Cabernet another few years and you too will find that it is one of the finest Cabernets you've ever enjoyed.
