The 2021 The Eyrie Vineyards Chardonnay "The Eyrie" Dundee Hills was a Merchant's Pick
The Stuff Movies Are Made About
January 23, 2025
The first winery to plant Pinot Noir in Oregon has turned their sights on Chardonnay!
This story begins in the 1960's when David Lett, a then UC Davis graduate, looked at a globe in his tiny apartment and realized that Willamette Valley was on the same latitude as Burgundy. With his education, he envisioned that Oregon could produce world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that would stand toe-to-toe with the top French domaines.
He was right!
Eyrie Vineyards Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are on the radar of every wine critic and sommelier of every fine dining establishment in NYC.
"The 2021 Chardonnay "The Eyrie" is especially expressive and powerful, offering surprising concentration. it features lush scents of apple pie, honeysuckle, beeswax and toast with streaks of flint and singular spicy undertones. The medium-bodied palate explodes with waves of pure, ripe fruit balanced by fireworks of mouthwatering acidity, and it has a very long energetic finish." Wine Advocate
Only a few will be able to get their hands on this extremely rare release.
Only 100 cases were bottles of their original vines, "The Eyrie" - which is not to be confused with their entry-level Dundee Hills Cuvee. An overwhelming majority of The Eyrie are kept at the winery for their tasting room.
We grabbed all we could and so should you!
A mere 14 cases of this extraordinarily limited bottling came to the New York Metro market, most of which was allocated to Michelin Star NYC restaurants. And us!
To call this wine "rare" or "limited" is an understatement!
You cannot pass on this opportunity if you fancy yourself a Chardonnay connoisseur!
First come, first served.
Enjoy!
