The 2021 Chateau Fuisse, "Le Clos" Pouilly-Fuisse 1er Cru, Burgundy was a Merchant's Pick
Once In A Lifetime Burgundy!
May 23, 2024
Château de Fuissé's Le Clos and Les Brules vineyards received 1er Cru status in 2020, a rare event in Burgundy that hasn't happened in over 75 years.
"There is no domaine in all of southern Burgundy that has more of a legendary reputation than this extraordinary estate." Robert Parker
Chateau Fuisse is the oldest estate in Pouilly-Fuisse. Now in its 5th generation, this historic estate produces white Burgundies that rivals the finest from Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne Montrachet, and Meursault.
This is a brilliant expression of the Pouilly-Fuissie, marrying grace, power, balance, and length. Stylishly oaked - but only a hint - it has the structure and concentration to age. It is a textbook white Burgundy, showing white pepper, citrus, and a vein of lemon rind that offers fantastic lift and texture. Flavors span white peach, orange peel, honeysuckle and dried honey. The palate is expressive, deep, and zestly. The persistence on the finish is impressive and reveals the old vines that produce this gorgeous monopole.
Chateau Fuisse is known for its uncompromising quality. Le Clos is a monopole (no other producer owns the vineyard) and is their flagship cuvee.
More akin the a Grand Cru in quality, Le Clos wants to be paired with food!
Enjoy with slow-poached Halibut and baby red potatoes roasted to perfection. Or, late summer vegetables, corn, roasted squash, and seared French cut chicken over a crispy baguette.
Simply stunning!
Whether you are a collector or just love great Chardonnay, you can enjoy this wine now through 2035.
Our recommendation: enjoy it on the warmer side of cold, as great whites can stand up to slightly warmer temperatures.
Enjoy!
