If you love white Burgundies or ever wanted to know why there is such a fuss for Grand Cru white Burgs, the 2019 Louis Latour Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru would be the wine to try.
Sometimes, it's hard to express the elegance of a Grand Cru white Burgundy. I'll give it a shot -
White Burgundies are among my favorite whites. The good ones hit the palate with excellent acidity and balanced, elegant fruit. The great ones are simply breathtaking!
Fresh and fruity, with aromas and flavors of lemon, pear, white flowers, and stone, the 2019 Latour Corton has excellent tension and an underlying minerality that gives this wine energy and length. The lemon zest flows effortlessly along the lasting finish, along with subtle notes of blanched almonds, fresh pastry, and mild oak.
The Grand Cru hill of Corton is known for its limestone soil, which imparts a beautiful structure to this Chardonnay. Louis Latour is the largest holder of property within this coveted hill. I have enjoyed four fantastic vintages over the past few years: 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2018. It is among my favorite Corton producers, especially since Corton-Charlemagne wines can fetch in excess of $1,000 per bottle. While not an everyday price point, the 2019 Louis Latour Corton-Charlemagne offers readers exceptional value within this high-end category.
Keeping up their high standards, the 2019 Louis Latour Corton-Charlemagne strikes us as better overall than the 2018 Latour Corton, which was the #6 Wine Spectator Top 100 Wine Of 2021.
And as my wife aptly described, "This is a good one!"
Serve this gorgeous Grand Cru on the warmer side of cold to enhance the wine's already impeccable fruit and acidity.
This world-class white may be enjoyed now through 2040.
