Napoleonic inheritance laws in Burgundy require that property be divided among heirs and then again to their heirs and so on, resulting in a tangled web of ownership.

To put things in perspective, Domaine Romanee Conti (Burgundy's most iconic and collectible wine) only has two monopoles. Domaine de l'Arlot is the proud owner of three, and Clos du Chapeau is one of them!
The 2022 Domaine de l'Arlot Clos du Chapeau is downright delicious. A tiny plot shaped like a hat (thus the Chapeau name) produces this rare red Burgundy, a classic Pinot Noir with a dark cherry core of earth, cherry pie, rose petals, baking spices, and wonderful underbrush notes. On the palate, the wine reveals wonderful red fruit with bright raspberry and currant flavors and good inner-mouth energy, finishing with supple, ripe tannins.
Only 250 six-pack cases of this rare wine are made each year.
