The 2021 Opus One, "Overture" Napa Valley was a Merchant's Pick
Opus One's Vintage-Specific Overture Debuts In A Blockbuster Vintage!
October 30, 2024
No 2020 Opus One paved the way for this stunning vintage-specific 2021 Overture. Previously, Opus One's Overture beautifully captured the essence of Opus One's flagship Proprietary Red across various vintages.
Each year, wine was held back from the primary bottling of Opus One and blended to make Overture. With no 2020 vintage due to wildfires, the winery elected to resume Overture in 2021 as a vintage-specific wine.
And what a vintage to debut!
The classic blackberry and cassis character of Cabernet Sauvignon melds seamlessly with the black cherry, red currant, and violet from the Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The blending of wine-lots across vintages and extended barrel aging give Overture a supple structure and silky texture while retaining Opus One's flagship DNA.
Co-owned by Baron Philippe de Rothschild (owner of Chateau Mouton Rothschild and Chateau Clerc Milan) and in the tradition of fine Bordeaux, Overture is the second wine of Opus One.
This silky, smooth Cabernet blend from Opus One is specifically crafted to reproduce the terroir of the Opus One estate.
And it has! 2021 across the board, produced outstanding wines, with accolades such as:
- "Classic, age-worthy wines." Jeb Dunnuck
- "The vintage displays signs of brilliance." James Suckling
- "A dream vintage." Ashley Hepworth, Joseph Phelps
- "Off the charts." Nate Weis, Silver Oak
Wines from the vintage - especially the 2021 Opus One Overture - offer concentration, depth, and balance. Overture is a tremendous value for Opus One fans - or fans of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Extremely limited. While supplies last.
