The 2019 David & Nadia, Chenin Blanc Swartland was a Merchant's Pick
96 pt South African Splendor Is Liquid Gold!
September 01, 2021
What is the best Chenin Blanc we've tasted all year? The 2019 David & Nadia Chenin Blanc.
We've tasted some gorgeous Chenins from the Loire Valley in France. But this South African splendor is something to behold.
Chenin Blancs are versatile whites that are food-friendly and have aging potential; they bridge that gap between Old and New World and are therefore incredibly popular whites because they appeal to so many palates.
Grapes for this wine come from seven vineyards spread across Swartland, planted between 1962 to 1982, and all registered with the Old Vine Project. A touch of flinty reduction on the nose before pear, peach, lemon and some floral lift, while the palate is supremely elegant with lots of pure fruit, racy acidity and a pithy finish.” Decanter
What We Love About This Wine
Creamy and luscious, this silky wine envelops your palate with zippy acidity on the finish that cuts through the fruit.
This is a luxurious yet elegant wine. You'll be treated to a nose of flint and beeswax moving to a palate of fresh Asian pear, slightly ripened yellow apples, honeysuckle, and an allspice finish.
Is it Thanksgiving yet? If it were, we would serve this glorious white without hesitation.
Until then, we will happily enjoy it as an aperitif or pair it with Charcuterie, butter seared scallops, duck breast, roasted chicken with sweet potatoes, or for the upcoming season: pumpkin risotto.
Enjoy!
