The 2016 Chateau Langoa-Barton, Saint-Julien was a Merchant's Pick

Shhh! • WS #1 Wine of The Year has a secret!

Wine Spectator's most recent #1 Wine, the 2016 Chateau Leoville Barton, sold out in minutes.

Read onyou are not going to want to miss this secret from Bordeaux that few know.

Chateau Leoville Barton has a nearly identical twin, Chateau Langoa Barton, which we are calling #1.5!

It gets better!

1.  Both wines are from 2016;

2.  Both wines are owned, operated, and produced by the Barton family;

3.  Both wines are made at Chateau Langoa Barton (our featured wine) since Leoville Barton (the #1 Wine) does not have its own chateau; they share the same cellar.

4.  Both are classic Bordeaux blends;

5.  Look closely, Chateau Leoville Barton (the #1 Wine) has a picture of Chateau Langoa Barton (our featured wine) on its label.  Why?  See #3 above!

So how do they differ?  Good question.

1) The only difference is parcel location:  Leoville Barton parcels are northern vineyards, while Langoa Barton parcels are southern;

2) Leoville Barton retails for $190, Langoa Barton retails for $99;

3) Leoville Barton is a 2nd Growth Bordeaux, Langoa Barton is a 3rd Growth;

4) Leoville Barton tends to be a bit more structured than Langoa Barton, which historically is a bit more approachable in its youth. In this stunning vintage, however, the line between the two is very, very thin.

We've tasted the 2016 Langoa Barton - the wine is impeccable!

"French roasted coffee bean, blackberry, cassis, spice, pepper, truffle, salty minerality, and leather will fill the glass (and the room).  "This sexy, plump, chewy effort doesn’t give up too much elegance, yet it packs tons of fruit, character, and delicious charm. Drink it over the coming two decades or more... it’s well worth having in your cellar. " Jeb Dunnuck

With the same owners, same winemakers, same cellar, same cellar treatment, same quality control, and same outstanding vintage, you are getting a rare opportunity to enjoy elements of the #1 Wine at half the price.

No wonder Antonio Galloni called it, "one of the sleepers of the vintage."

Enjoy!

Quantities are extremely limited.

Wine Spectator's #1 Wine of The Year Has A Nearly Identical Twin!

“This is in great form. Very powerful and focused.”

James Suckling • 96 / 100

<p>"Beautiful aromas of flowers and berries, intermingled in fresh and brambly mode with a cedary edge. This is very fresh. The tannins carve an exceptionally deep, long line through the dark berries and cassis and deliver a very powerful, unwavering finish. This is in great form. Very powerful and focused."</p>

“Plum reduction, mulled açai berry and warmed fig fruit.”

Wine Spectator • 95 / 100

<p>"Sappy and dense, with kirsch, plum reduction, mulled açai berry and warmed fig fruit showing impressive range, while licorice snap, ganache and roasted apple wood notes jostle behind them. Mouthwatering acidity should give this plenty of time to round into form."</p>

“I like the balance here.”

Decanter • 94 / 100

<p>"Still extremely young, the construction here is clear in that you can feel the architectural hand of 2016 with St-Julien balance. This is rich and deep with intense, concentrated and juicy cassis fruits joined by a touch of sweet liquorice, dark chocolate and charred oak edging. I like the balance here. Matured in 60% new oak."</p>
