Crazy Good Spanish Red • Back Up The Truck!

January 15, 2025

When Asked, "How Good Is Crazy Good?"  The Answer:  Silly Good For The Money!  Once you taste for yourself, you will agree. Bodegas Olivares Alto de La Hoya is an absolute joy; it's juicy, balanced, and delicious.

This old vine, coastal Spanish wine has estate vines that date back to 1872!  Mostly Monastrell (Mouvedre in France), a dash of Garnacha is added to brighten the wine.  Think Rhone red - but better!

Altos de la Hoya showcases ripe black fruit aromas, complemented by Mediterranean herbs and a subtle touch of spice. A whisper of smoky oak adds depth, rounding out its smooth, plush finish. Juicy, round, and fleshy on the palate, the tannins are seamlessly integrated, while the limestone soil lends a refined texture. This everyday red achieves a perfect balance between structure and approachability, making it an ideal choice for both immediate enjoyment and grabbing it out of your pantry for any occasion.

Turn your Thursday night Netflix binge, or even Saturday evening dinner of haut cuisine, into an entirely new experience.

“Ripe black fruit, Mediterranean herbs and a spicy, creamy and smoky touch.”

Wine Advocate

"The 2022 Altos de la Hoya, which comes from ungrafted Monastrell selected from plots at 830 to 840 meters above sea level on sandy limestone soils. The dry-farmed and head-pruned vines have an average age of 45 years. The Monastrell is complemented by 5% Garnacha... The wine has notes of ripe black fruit, Mediterranean herbs and a spicy, creamy and smoky touch from the oak. It's juicy, round and fleshy, with 14.5% alcohol and good balance and almost unnoticeable tannins."
