The 2021 Bodega Bernabeleva, Camino de Navaherreros, Madrid was a Merchant's Pick
The Jewel of Madrid • Once A Year Release!
June 08, 2023
In a tiny village on the outskirts of Madrid is a small winery whose wines are in such demand they rarely make it to the United States.
There, wine bars and restaurants clamor for Camino de Navaherreros, the jewel of Madrid.
Shortly after release, this Grenache-based red disappears within the city, leaving little, if any, for the rest of the world to enjoy.
A mere pittance of an allocation has been rereleased to the United States.
The vines of Navaherreros are over 80 years old and produce wonderful scents of strawberry, raspberry, rose, magnolia and Asian spices. Fresh and energetic fruit with sweet red berry flavors are unfettered by tannins. The spiciness repeats on the finish, which is long and pure.
The 2021 Navaherreros is a delicious wine that lives up to its reputation and more. It has the weight and texture of a rustic Pinot Noir with the structure of a youthful Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
You wouldn't know the wine sees a bit of oak - which allows the purity of fruit to shine. It is a terrific, versatile red to enjoy all year long, especially during barbecue season.
Enjoy with steak, chicken, or your favorite grilled fare. A glass with your favorite wedge of cheese will be a fantastic experience by itself.
Enjoy now and over the next five years.
