The 2019 Gabin & Felix Richoux Irancy Burgundy was a Merchant's Pick
Pinot Unicorn • Taste the brilliance of Irancy for yourself!
December 12, 2024
Four centuries and counting! Since 1610, the Richoux family has been growing grapes and producing wine in the picturesque village of Irancy, Burgundy.
Now, in their 12th generation, the Richoux family is known as masters when it comes to vineyard work and vinification.
Richoux's craft is so good, well-known producers in the region have hired Richoux to oversee their Irancy vineyards.
"Thierry Richoux -- and now his sons Felix and Gabin-- prove that Irancy's wines can be a revelation. Pioneers of organic farming, they realize the appellations potential, limiting their yields, harvesting by hand and maturing their wines for two years. Irancy's amphitheater of hills naturally produce rather powerful, virile wines." Wine Advocate
"These are standout wines of Irancy, and to be honest, there is a gap between Richoux and the rest. These wines tend to be quite intense in style, their extended eleveage lending them real structure and longevity." Neal Martin, Vinous
The Storybook Village of Irancy
Located in the Yonne region of Northern France, just a few kilometers from west of Chablis, Irancy represents a tiny island of red sitting amongst a sea of white wine production.
The region is known for it's limestone-laden soils, which impart a clear and fine underpinning of minerallity in the wines, both red and white.
Richoux's Irancy is brilliant. Bursting with aromas of raspberries and cherries mingled with rose petals, spices, and sweet, loamy soil. It is medium to full-bodied, supple, and seamless; the textured tannins are wrapped in an ample core of succulent fruit.
The 2019 Irancy is an absolute powerhouse from an equally outstanding vintage. It is a robust Pinot Noir and loaded with depth and expression.
Only 56 cases are imported to the United States for each vintage.
If you are a Pinot Noir fan, this highly sought-after red should be on your shortlist of wines to get each release.
Enjoy!
