The 2023 Alphonse Mellot, "La Moussiere" Sancerre Blanc was a Merchant's Pick
If You Love Sancerre, This One's For You!
August 05, 2024
The oldest Sauvignon Blanc vines are located on the south-facing ridge of La Moussiere.
Ever since I enjoyed a bottle of the 2016 Mellot La Moussiere Sancerre, "La Moussiere" has become a part of my white wine repertoire.
Mind you, that bottle was five years old when I enjoyed it - a testament to the terroir and how well it is made.
Alphonse Mellot produces a sophisticated Sancerre with Burgundian nuance. From the oldest known Sauvignon Blanc vines, the roots reach deep pulling into the grapes gorgeous minerality and outstanding grip and texture.
The newly released 2022 Mellot Sancerre La Moussiere is an absolute stunner, showcasing clean fruit and bright, refreshing acidity.
La Moussiere is a Burgundy lover's Sancerre. 2022 is an impressive wine with mouth-filling fruit and gripping white grapefruit notes. The limestone soil gives this Sauvignon Blanc its texture and precision, which define the Alphonse Mellot wines. We are always drawn to this wine's white flower notes, chalky texture, and lively finish. Rather than intense lemon-lime notes often associated with Sauvignon Blanc, this Sauvignon Blanc has subtle citrus notes and gorgeous texture.
All farming is organic and certified biodynamic with a focus on low yields and ideal ripeness.
This complex, versatile white pairs well with tuna tartare, mussels "à la Charentaise," chanterelle mushroom omelets, baked Norway lobsters, raw oysters, braised ham with white sauce, Chavignol goat's milk cheeses, and puff pastries.
If you like Sancerre, this wine is for you!
Enjoy!
