The 2016 Chateau des Laurets, Puisseguin Saint-Emilion (by Baron Edmond de Rothschild) was a Merchant's Pick
Rothschild Bordeaux • Best In Class!
April 23, 2024
From an epic Bordeaux vintage! At $39, it is hard to believe you can get so much value from Bordeaux, a wine region where prices continue to skyrocket. In a blind tasting, this wine would handily beat wines in excess of $50.
The quality comes from its pedigree. Chateau des Laurets is owned by the Rothschild Family of Chateau Lafite. In 2008, they hand-selected this estate for its unique clay and limestone soil.
The goal? To produce world-class Bordeaux.
Once they took over, yields were immediately reduced to improve the quality of the harvest. Over a decade later, Chateau des Laurets is now one of the premiere estates of the region.
Ripe black plum. A healthy dose of baking spice. Cassis. Youthful tannins seem to last on the palate for minutes. Dry and earthy, mild accents of vanilla emerge on entry. Extremely balanced for such a big, powerful vintage.
Our First Impression - Awesome!
Located immediately north of Saint-Emilion in Bordeaux, the limestone terroir allows Merlot and Cabernet Franc to thrive. The warm, epic vintage is palpable in this beautiful Bordeaux.
"Soooo good; it is one of my favorites." Steven Bedrosian
So how do we recommend you enjoy this big-time Bordeaux that can easily stand up to Bordeaux 3x its price?
Decant, let it breathe for at least 30 minutes, and pair it with creamy cheese or your favorite cut of grilled meat (a la porterhouse).
Delicious!
