A small creek called Barbane is all that separates Château Siaurac in Lalande-de-Pomerol from the most prestigious Pomerol first growths.

Who is behind Chateau Siaurac, that if across the creek, would be 5x the price?  Chateau Latour and Chateau Colon Segur!  

Latour brought the property in 2014 and brought in new talent.  In 2020, they sold to Chateau Calon Segur, which brought in the former Chateau Petrus winemaker to consult.  

A creek may delineate the technical wine regions, but it does not define the terroir or quality of this red!   

Blackberry and blueberry core meld with the plum flavors. Cassis and strawberry accents on the finish.  The Cabernet Franc offers rustic charm and earth, while the Merlot offers finesse, silk, and fresh tobacco leaf.  A dash of oak is present on the finish - but very faint.  This is an excellent Bordeaux value from an equally stellar vintage.

We've been fans of Chateau Siaurac for years, but the 2018 recently turned heads at dinner, where eight of us enjoyed a few Bordeaux.  Passing and pouring, sipping and swirling, one wine stood out, with nearly everyone asking for more - and more.  

In my 25 years of tasting and reviewing wines, I have never seen such consensus.  (Reminder - this 2018 was still controlled by the Chateau Latour team when bottled).

The 2018 Plaisir de Siaurac is a keeper!
