Our #5 Wine Of The Year

December 31, 2025

Each year, we taste thousands of wines. Only a handful earn a place on our Top 5 Wines Of The Year—bottles that combine character, authenticity, and genuine emotional pull.

These standouts are not chosen by score, but by what we couldn’t stop saying or thinking about it after the glass was empty.

After tasting the 2023 Bourgogne Côte d’Or from Domaine Dubuet Monthelie, we purchased every available case - fourteen to be exact.  And, that's all there is!

This wine leads with wild cherry, wild strawberry, and crushed raspberry, followed by subtle layers of rose petal, orange peel, and gentle savory spice. The palate is supple yet focused, offering fine-grained tannins, refreshing acidity, and a mineral core that carries through the finish. What stands out most is the composure of the wine at this youthful stage—nothing exaggerated, nothing missing. It’s a Pinot Noir that feels complete rather than merely promising.

The Bourgogne Côte d’Or appellation is known as Burgundy’s famed “Golden Slope,” the narrow limestone corridor that produces the region’s most celebrated wines.  The Côte d’Or is distinguished from the broader regional Bourgogne only cuvees.

The Côte d'Or is home to many of Burgundy’s most revered red wine villages, including Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, Volnay, and Pommard. Wines from this narrow limestone corridor are prized for their purity, balance, and age-worthy structure, setting the global benchmark for Pinot Noir.

Our chef's pairing?  Pair it with herb-roasted chicken.  Or, duck breast with cherries or lentils, or veal with mushrooms and a light jus. For vegetarian fare, think mushroom risotto, lentil dishes, or roasted root vegetables—foods that echo the wine’s savory undertones and let its red-fruit purity stay front and center.

Only 14 cases are available.  Once spoken for, no more will be available.

Cheers!
