Just when you thought the last of the 2019 Brunello beauties were gone, a late-release legend emerges.

Il Colle is one of the purest Sangiovese expressions made today.  

The winery employed revered consultant Mont Giulio Gambelli, who was propelled to fame by helping forge Montalcino’s elites Soldera and Montevertine (of Le Pergole Torte).  

Gambelli is known as the Legend of Montalcino.  With a philosophy that wine is made in the vineyard not the cellar, he has been universally recognized in Tuscany as "il grande maestro del sangiovese." Decanter

Finesse and class.  This lovely red opens with ripe woodland berry, violet, wild herb and underbrush. Delicious and elegantly structured, the palate shows youthful tension that offsets juicy Morello cherry, crushed raspberry, grilled rosemary and baking spice. Taut, refined tannins and bright acidity provide impeccable balance. It’s already showing beautifully but promises great aging potential too.

The Il Colle winery employs Gambelli's traditional winemaking skills - farming organically and using large casks versus smaller barriques, which means less oak influence and more fruit nuance.

Many producers were quick to capitalize on the 2019 press; however, true to form, Il Colle held this prized vintage back until it was ready for release.

We love this gorgeous Brunello's herbs, cherries, and rustic charm, which can be enjoyed now and over the next fifteen years. 

At $500 per bottle, you may need a special occasion to pour Soldera.
