The 2021 Anthill Farms, "Peugh Vineyard" Chardonnay, Russian River was a Merchant's Pick
Your new favorite Chardonnay (when you can get it!).
March 11, 2024
Nearly a decade ago Anthill Farm was named the "Most Promising New Winery" by Food & Wine Magazine. Since then, we have enjoyed countless vintages from this winery with each one more delicious than the next.
We reminisce from the first time we tasted Anthill Farm's "Peugh Vineyard" Chardonnay when we said we were "captivated" and "impressed" by the wine.
Well, you are in for another treat with the newly released 2021 "Peugh Vineyard" Chardonnay as this wine is simply riveting!
The 2021 Chardonnay "Peugh Vineyard", from vines originally planted in 1887 and grafted to Chardonnay in 1944, is pure and energetic. It has soft aromas of Hazelnut, Toasted Meringue, Iodine and Meyer Lemon. The light-bodied palate balances tangy acidity with a creamy, mouth-coating texture and lemon-cream flavors, and has a long, focused finish streaked with saline character." Wine Advocate
A Standout Russian River Chardonnay From Old Vines!
Anthill Farm is full of luscious, balanced fruit and fantastic minerality that comes from its old vine distinct terroir. It is not oaky or flabby; rather, it is energetic and offers terrific lift from the very first sip.
Why do "Old Vines" matter?
For starters, old vines reach deep into the soil pulling minerality reminiscent of a fine white Burgundy. Second, the older vines are much harder to maintain and produce extremely low yields; it's extremely challenging and very expensive to make wine from these grapes. That's why you can not have a mass-produced wine made from old vines.
Anthill Winery simply refuses to compromise on quality of fruit. You will be amazed by the depth and structure of this bottle of wine. The nose lures you in with creamy lemon meringue; the palate opens to waves of Asian Pear, gooseberry, spiced white pepper, pink jasmine, and delicate talc-like tannins.
This is a special and limited Chardonnay. Order by the case and drink over the next 5-10 years!
Welcome to your new favorite Chardonnay (when you can get it!).
Enjoy!
