The 2023 Massican, Annia Napa Valley was a Merchant's Pick
Oustanding California White... With An Italian Twist
April 24, 2025
Cutting his teeth at Larkmeed and DuMol, owner Dan Petroski has focused his winemaking craft on making clean, vibrant white wines from Mediterranean varietals: Tocai Friulano (often called Friulano) and Ribolla Gialla, classic white grapes from the Friuli-Venezia region of Italy, where these two are frequently blended.
Massican Annia is a testament to Petroski's original vision: combining mountain Chardonnay fruit with the refreshing minerality and crispness of classic Mediterranean varietals.
Mission accomplished!
Hints of fresh-cut honeydew melon rind, lemon zest, and orange blossom on the nose. Flavors of Meyer lemon, white peaches, and a saline on the palate. The finish is long and persistent with a touch of almond skin and wild herbs. Fantastic!
Our First Impressions Of Massican Annia:
Stone fruit, vibrant minerality, and springtime jump from the glass!
"Annia" is Massican's flagship wine - though all Massican wines are inspired by Petroski's time in Sicily: “To me, living in Sicily was all about orange and lemon blossoms, the amazing almonds, the salinity, the aromas — I wanted to have those things. Sticking my nose into a Massican transports me to an island in the Mediterranean.”
Annia is decidedly Italian in its profile. It is a perfect white to enjoy as part of your white wine repertoire this spring and summer!
Pair with all of your favorite Mediterranean and coastal foods such as calamari, mussels, summer salads, cod, and light pasta dishes.
Enjoy!
The best from California vineyards and winemaking with a Mediterranean flair.
